Mickey Chen

Mickey Chen (1967 to 10 December 2018) was a Taiwanese documentary director, writer and LGBTQ rights activist, known for films on marginalized lives, especially those of LGBTQ people in Taiwan. He graduated from the Department of Radio and Television at National Chengchi University in 1991 and began his career as a journalist and film critic before turning to documentaries. His films include Not Simply a Wedding Banquet (1997), Boys for Beauty (1999), described as the first LGBTQ documentary screened in theaters in Taiwan, War of the Roses (2002), Memorandum on Happiness (2003), My Friend With AIDS (2004), Scars on Memory (2005) and Queers on Stage (2006). He also wrote books and articles on LGBTQ issues. He died of cardiogenic shock at his home.
