Joshua Oppenheimer is an American and British film director based in Copenhagen, Denmark, born on 23 September 1974. He directed the Oscar-nominated documentaries The Act of Killing in 2012 and The Look of Silence in 2014, as well as his 2024 narrative debut, The End. He was a Marshall Scholar in 1997 and a recipient of the MacArthur fellowship in 2014, and his documentaries are known for unusual methods of confronting perpetrators of political violence.

It was screened in competition at the 71st Venice International Film Festival and won the Grand Jury Prize, the International Film Critics Award (FIPRESCI), the Italian online critics award (Mouse d'Oro), the European Film Critics Award (F.E.D.E.O.R.A.) for the Best Film of Venezia 71, as well as the Human Rights Nights Award.
