Jackie Chan, born Chan Kong-sang in 1954, is a Hong Kong martial artist, actor and filmmaker whose self-performed stunt comedy changed the action film. Trained from childhood at the China Drama Academy, a Peking Opera school, he entered the Hong Kong film industry as a stuntman and broke through with Snake in the Eagle's Shadow and Drunken Master in 1978. He made his directorial debut with The Fearless Hyena in 1979 and later formed the Jackie Chan Stunt Team with Project A in 1983, combining elaborate stunts, martial arts and slapstick in films such as Police Story. Rumble in the Bronx in 1995 brought him to North American audiences, and the Rush Hour series made him a Hollywood success. He has been honoured with stars on the Hong Kong Avenue of Stars and the Hollywood Walk of Fame and received an honorary Academy Award in 2016, and he also serves as dean of a film and television academy in Wuhan.
