Ingmar Bergman

Ingmar Bergman was a Swedish film and theatre director and writer known for psychologically intense films exploring faith, mortality and human relationships. His films The Seventh Seal, Wild Strawberries, Persona and Fanny and Alexander are regarded among the most influential works in world cinema, often marked by stark black-and-white cinematography and long, searching close-ups on his actors' faces. Bergman worked repeatedly with cinematographer Sven Nykvist and actors including Liv Ullmann and Max von Sydow, building one of the most consistent and recognizable directorial styles in film history over a career spanning more than five decades.
