Ethan Coen

Ethan Jesse Coen (born September 21, 1957) is an American filmmaker who, working alongside his brother Joel Coen, has directed, written, edited and produced many feature films under the joint billing the Coen brothers. Their most acclaimed work includes Blood Simple (1984), Raising Arizona (1987), Miller's Crossing (1990), Barton Fink (1991), Fargo (1996), The Big Lebowski (1998), O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000), No Country for Old Men (2007), Burn After Reading (2008), A Serious Man (2009), True Grit (2010) and Inside Llewyn Davis (2013), a body of work spanning crime, comedy and drama that has drawn repeated Academy Award recognition, including a Best Picture and Best Director win for No Country for Old Men. Ethan Coen was born in St. Louis Park, Minnesota, and studied philosophy at Princeton University after attending Bard College at Simon's Rock, an academic background that has been noted for its influence on the brothers' densely plotted, dialogue-driven screenplays.
