Bong Joon-ho

Bong Joon Ho, born in Daegu, South Korea, on 14 September 1969, is a South Korean filmmaker who has been active since 1994. His work is characterized by an emphasis on social and class themes, genre-mixing, dark comedy and sudden tone shifts, and he is the recipient of numerous accolades, including three Academy Awards. He gained a cult following with his feature directorial debut, the dark comedy Barking Dogs Never Bite in 2000, and went on to achieve critical success with Memories of Murder in 2003 and The Host in 2006.
