Anurag Kashyap, born in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, on 10 September 1972, is an Indian filmmaker and actor known for his work in Hindi cinema, active since 1997. He is the recipient of four Filmfare Awards, and in 2013 the Government of France made him a Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters. He first worked as a writer on Ram Gopal Varma's crime drama Satya in 1998, made his directorial debut with Paanch, and went on to direct Black Friday in 2004 and Dev.D in 2009. Within this atlas Anurag Kashyap is credited as the director of Dev.D and Bombay Velvet.
