Andy Mooney

Industrialists, Publishers and Executives

Andy Mooney, born in 1955 in Whitburn, West Lothian, is a Scottish business executive who rose through consumer marketing to lead licensing and brand divisions at global entertainment companies. After about twenty years at Nike, where he moved from finance in the United Kingdom into marketing and became chief marketing officer for the United States, he joined the Walt Disney Company in December 1999 as president of Disney Consumer Products and became its chairman in May 2003. Under him the division oversaw Disney Publishing Worldwide, the Baby Einstein Company and the re-acquired Disney Store chain. He is credited with pioneering the Disney Princess franchise after noticing girls in homemade princess costumes at a Disney on Ice show, and he later served as chief executive of Fender Musical Instruments Corporation.
