Roger & Me

Roger & Me is a 1989 documentary and the directorial debut of Michael Moore, chronicling General Motors chief executive Roger Smith's decision to close automobile plants in Moore's hometown of Flint, Michigan, and the economic devastation that followed for the city. Moore structures the film around his own repeated, unsuccessful attempts to secure an interview with Smith, using dark comedy alongside scenes of hardship in Flint. It became one of the most commercially successful documentaries of its era on a modest budget, was named among the ten best films of 1989 by critics Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert, and was added to the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress in 2013 as a work of lasting cultural significance.
