Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu is a Mexican filmmaker, born August 15 1963 in Mexico City, known for psychological drama films about the human condition. His features include Amores perros (2000), 21 Grams (2003), Babel (2006), Biutiful (2010), Birdman (2014), The Revenant (2015) and Bardo (2022). His work has won five Academy Awards, three BAFTA Awards and four Golden Globe Awards, and he won the Best Director Oscar for both Birdman and The Revenant, becoming only the third director to win that category in consecutive years, a feat last achieved 65 years earlier. In 2006 he won the Cannes Film Festival Best Director award for Babel, the first Mexican-born director to receive it, and he is the only director to win the DGA Award for Outstanding Directing in consecutive years. He also received a Special Achievement Academy Award for his 2017 virtual reality installation Carne y Arena, the first VR work presented at Cannes.
