A media distribution model that lets viewers access television shows, films and other video digitally on request, rather than at a broadcaster's fixed scheduled time. Delivered over the internet or IPTV to set-top boxes, smart TVs, computers, tablets and phones, video on demand underlies streaming services such as Netflix, which shifted from DVD-by-mail rental into on-demand streaming in 2007.
