Dheepan

Dheepan is a 2015 French crime drama directed by Jacques Audiard. It follows three Tamil refugees fleeing the Sri Lankan civil war who travel to France under false identities, with the title character assuming the identity of a dead man to pose as the head of a family with two strangers; after finding work as a caretaker in a violent Paris housing estate, he must draw on his past as a former Tamil Tiger fighter when the estate's drug gangs create a new kind of conflict zone. Partly inspired by Montesquieu's Persian Letters and Sam Peckinpah's 1971 thriller Straw Dogs, the film won the Palme d'Or at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival and received largely positive reviews, with critics praising it as a powerful look at the modern immigrant experience in Europe.
