The State of Things is a 1982 West German road film directed by Wim Wenders, starring Patrick Bauchau as a film director and Allen Garfield as his producer. Shot as an interlude during production delays on Wenders' own Hammett, it follows a film crew stranded in Portugal after their production runs out of money and film stock, and the director's journey to Los Angeles to find the missing producer, who is hiding from the mafia. The film won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival.
