La Dolce Vita is a 1960 Italian film directed by Federico Fellini, following a tabloid journalist over a series of nights through Rome's wealthy, celebrity-obsessed nightlife as he drifts among affairs, parties and personal disillusionment. The film's imagery, particularly a scene of actress Anita Ekberg wading through the Trevi Fountain, became widely reproduced symbols of the era, and the surname of the journalist's photographer companion, Paparazzo, entered international vocabulary as the origin of the word paparazzi. La Dolce Vita won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival and is regarded as one of the defining films of Italian cinema and of Fellini's career.
