Warcraft: Orcs and Humans is a real time strategy video game developed and published by Blizzard Entertainment in 1994, the first entry in what became the Warcraft franchise, pitting the technology based Human Alliance against the invading Orc Horde across a series of missions. Released not long after the genre defining Dune II, it helped popularize and cement the conventions of the real time strategy genre, including base building paired with resource gathering and unit production, and its commercial success established Blizzard as a major force in strategy gaming.
