V for Vendetta (comic book)

V for Vendetta is a graphic novel written by Alan Moore and illustrated by David Lloyd, with additional art by Tony Weare, first serialized in the British anthology Warrior from 1982 to 1985 and completed as a ten-issue color series by DC Comics from 1988 to 1989. Set in a dystopian fascist Britain, it follows a masked anarchist revolutionary known only as V as he wages a campaign against the totalitarian state, presenting his violent methods with enough moral ambiguity that readers are left to judge him rather than simply cheer him. By 2006 DC Comics had sold more than five hundred thousand copies in the United States alone, and the BBC named it one of the hundred most influential novels in 2019; the Guy Fawkes mask worn by its protagonist has since become an internationally recognized symbol of protest well beyond the comic itself.
