The Walking Dead is a comic book series written by Robert Kirkman with art by Tony Moore on its first six issues, published by Image Comics beginning in October 2003. It follows Rick Grimes, a Kentucky sheriff's deputy who wakes from a coma to find a zombie apocalypse has devastated the world, and traces his growth into the leader of a community of survivors. The series won the Eisner Award for Best Continuing Series in 2007 and 2010, ran for 193 issues until Kirkman ended it in July 2019, and became the basis for a television adaptation and a wider multimedia franchise beginning in 2010.
