The Thief of Bagdad

Silent and Early Cinema Landmarks

The Thief of Bagdad is a 1924 American silent fantasy adventure directed by Raoul Walsh and starring and produced by Douglas Fairbanks as a thief who falls in love with a princess and must overcome a series of mystical trials to win her hand. The film was noted for its lavish sets and elaborate special effects for its time, including a flying carpet and a mechanical flying horse, and it was among the most expensive productions of the silent era. The Thief of Bagdad is widely regarded as a landmark of silent-era fantasy adventure filmmaking and one of Fairbanks's most acclaimed films.
