The Ten Commandments is a 1923 American silent epic directed by Cecil B. DeMille, structured in two parts: a prologue dramatizing the biblical account of the Exodus and the giving of the commandments to Moses, followed by a modern-day story of two brothers, one who lives by the commandments and one who breaks them, illustrating the consequences of each path. Its lavish biblical spectacle, large-scale sets and sizable cast made it one of the highest-grossing films of the silent era. DeMille later returned to the same biblical material alone for his 1956 sound remake of the same title.
