The Amazing Spider-Man #1 is a comic book published by Marvel Comics in March 1963, written by Stan Lee and drawn by Steve Ditko, launching Spider-Man's own ongoing series after his introduction the previous year in Amazing Fantasy #15. The issue expands on Peter Parker's origin as a bullied high school student who gains spider like abilities, struggles financially after his uncle's death, and is initially rejected by the superhero team the Fantastic Four, and it introduces the Chameleon as the character's first supervillain antagonist. It helped establish the more psychologically complicated, financially strapped teenage superhero that became one of Marvel's defining creative innovations.
