Slumdog Millionaire

Slumdog Millionaire is a 2008 British drama film directed by Danny Boyle, adapted from Vikas Swarup's novel Q & A. The story follows Jamal, an eighteen year old from the Mumbai slums, as he becomes a contestant on the Indian version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? and is accused of cheating after answering every question correctly; his interrogation unfolds as a series of flashbacks that trace how his hard childhood and young adulthood taught him each answer. The film starred Dev Patel in his breakout role alongside Freida Pinto, Anil Kapoor and Irrfan Khan. It won eight Academy Awards at the 2009 ceremony, including Best Picture, Best Director for Boyle and Best Adapted Screenplay, and also won seven BAFTA Awards and four Golden Globes.
