Show People

Silent and Early Cinema Landmarks

Show People is a 1928 American film directed by King Vidor for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's Cosmopolitan Productions, released with a synchronized musical score and sound effects but no audible dialogue. It stars Marion Davies and William Haines and features cameo appearances by numerous contemporary film figures, including Charlie Chaplin, Douglas Fairbanks, William S. Hart, John Gilbert and writer Elinor Glyn, along with Vidor and Davies appearing as themselves. A lighthearted look at Hollywood at the close of the silent era, released the year after the breakthrough talking picture The Jazz Singer, it is widely considered Davies's best film role.
