Sense and Sensibility (1995 film)

Hollywood and English-Language Studio Cinema

Sense and Sensibility is a 1995 romantic drama directed by Ang Lee from a screenplay by Emma Thompson, adapting Jane Austen's novel of the same name, a United States-United Kingdom co-production starring Thompson as Elinor Dashwood, Kate Winslet as Marianne Dashwood, Hugh Grant as Edward Ferrars and Alan Rickman as Colonel Brandon. It follows two sisters of a once-wealthy English family navigating romance and financial hardship after their father's death. Its Golden Bear win at the 1996 Berlin International Film Festival made Ang Lee the first director to win the award twice.
