Rear Window is a 1954 American thriller directed by Alfred Hitchcock, starring James Stewart as a photographer confined to a wheelchair with a broken leg who becomes convinced, from observing his neighbors through his apartment window, that one of them has murdered his wife, and Grace Kelly as his girlfriend who is drawn into investigating. The film is staged almost entirely from within the photographer's apartment, building suspense through what he can and cannot see and hear of the courtyard outside, a formally restrictive setup Hitchcock used to sustain tension without conventional action. Rear Window is widely regarded as one of Alfred Hitchcock's finest films and a landmark of suspense filmmaking built around a single confined point of view.
