Persona is a 1966 Swedish film written and directed by Ingmar Bergman, starring Bibi Andersson as a nurse assigned to care for Liv Ullmann as an actress who has stopped speaking, the two women isolated together at a remote seaside house as their identities begin to blur and merge. The film is built around stark black and white close-ups and an experimental, self-conscious style, including a famous shot combining halves of both actresses' faces into a single composite image. Persona is widely regarded as one of Bergman's most formally daring films and among the most influential works of modernist art cinema.
