Love and Rockets (comic book)

Love and Rockets is a comic book series created by brothers Gilbert, Jaime and Mario Hernandez, self-published beginning in 1981 before being picked up by Fantagraphics Books in 1982, and continuing across four volumes into the twenty first century. The series is built from two loosely connected strands, Gilbert's magical-realist Palomar stories set in a fictional Central American village and Jaime's Locas stories following the working-class Chicano punk scene of Southern California. Described by The Guardian as one of the most original and influential comics projects ever made, it is credited with bringing depictions of queerness, gender and Latino identity into alternative comics years before those subjects became part of mainstream cultural conversation.
