Little Orphan Annie (radio series)

Radio Drama and Broadcast Landmarks

Little Orphan Annie is an American radio drama based on Harold Gray's newspaper comic strip of the same name, debuting on Chicago's WGN in 1930 before moving to NBC's Blue Network in April 1931, where it continued until April 1942. The fifteen-minute children's serial followed Annie and her dog Sandy through adventures against gangsters, pirates and smugglers, with occasional help from the wealthy industrialist Oliver Daddy Warbucks and his bodyguard Punjab, and was sponsored for most of its run by Ovaltine before Quaker Puffed Wheat took over sponsorship in 1940. Alongside the children's serial Skippy, it is considered one of the two oldest American children's radio programs.
