Krazy Kat

Krazy Kat is an American newspaper comic strip created by George Herriman, first published on October 28, 1913, and syndicated through William Randolph Hearst's King Features Syndicate for both daily and Sunday editions. The strip followed a recurring love triangle between the androgynous cat Krazy Kat, a mouse named Ignatz who habitually threw bricks at Krazy's head, and a dog named Offissa Pupp, rendered in a loose, dreamlike drawing style and an unusually experimental approach to page layout for a newspaper strip of its era. Krazy Kat became one of the first comic strips to be praised by literary and art critics as a serious artistic achievement rather than merely popular entertainment, with critic Gilbert Seldes in 1924 calling it the most amusing and fantastic work of art then being produced in the United States, and its visual and poetic style influenced generations of later cartoonists.
