Judge Dredd is a comic strip created by writer John Wagner and artist Carlos Ezquerra, first appearing in the second issue of the British anthology comic 2000 AD in March 1977 under editor Pat Mills. The strip follows Judge Joseph Dredd, a street judge in the dystopian future city of Mega-City One who holds combined police, judicial and executive authority to arrest, convict, sentence and execute criminals on the spot, in stories that use his brutal efficiency to satirize authoritarianism and police violence in American and British culture. Dredd became 2000 AD's longest-running character, received his own spinoff title, Judge Dredd Megazine, in 1990, and has since been adapted into multiple films and video games.
