If.... is a 1968 British film directed by Lindsay Anderson, marking Malcolm McDowell's film debut as Mick Travis. A satirical, surrealist drama shot partly in black and white and partly in color, it follows a group of nonconformist pupils at an English boys' boarding school as their resentment of the school's rigid authority builds toward a savage insurrection. The film won the Palme d'Or at the 1969 Cannes Film Festival and was later ranked by the British Film Institute among the twelve greatest British films of the twentieth century.
