Ghost World is a graphic novel by Daniel Clowes, serialized in issues 11 through 18 of his comic book series Eightball between 1993 and 1997 and collected by Fantagraphics Books in 1997. It follows Enid Coleslaw and Rebecca Doppelmeyer, two cynical recent high school graduates, as they drift through an unnamed American suburban town dominated by strip malls and fast food, mocking the people and culture around them while quietly dreading the adulthood closing in on them. Critics compared its unsentimental portrait of adolescence to J.D. Salinger's The Catcher in the Rye, and the book's success led to a 2001 film adaptation directed by Terry Zwigoff that earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay.
