Fun Home is a graphic memoir by Alison Bechdel published in 2006, recounting her childhood in a family funeral home, her relationship with her closeted gay father, and her own coming out as a lesbian shortly before his death, which she came to understand as a likely suicide. The book combines dense literary allusion with Bechdel's detailed, meticulously researched cartooning, weaving family photographs, letters and literary texts into its narrative structure. Fun Home received widespread critical acclaim on publication and was later adapted into a Tony Award-winning Broadway musical, and it is widely regarded as a landmark work of literary graphic memoir.
