From Hell

From Hell is a graphic novel written by Alan Moore and illustrated by Eddie Campbell, serialized between 1989 and 1996 before being collected as a single volume, presenting a heavily researched fictionalized account of the Jack the Ripper murders in 1888 London built around a version of the long-circulated royal conspiracy theory. Illustrated in dense, scratchy black and white line art rather than a conventional comics style, the book is accompanied by extensive prose annotations in which Moore documents his historical sources and departures from them. It is widely regarded by comics critics as one of the most ambitious and historically serious graphic novels of its era.
