Flow

Flow is a 2024 animated film directed by Gints Zilbalodis, a Latvia, France and Belgium co-production made with no dialogue, following a solitary black cat that must learn to cooperate with a capybara, a lemur, a dog and a bird after a catastrophic flood destroys its home, as the animals share a small boat while searching for higher ground in a world seemingly abandoned by humans. Produced independently on a modest budget using the free, open source software Blender rather than a major studio animation pipeline, the film builds its story entirely through the animals' behavior and interaction rather than any spoken narration. It became the first Latvian production to win an Academy Award and a Golden Globe, the first independent film to win the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, and only the second animated film ever nominated for both the Best Animated Feature and Best International Feature Film categories at the same ceremony.
