Flash Comics #1

Print, Comics and Photojournalism Landmarks

Flash Comics #1 is an anthology comic book with a January 1940 cover date, though initially released on November 20, 1939, published by All-American Publications, later absorbed into National Periodical Publications, now DC Comics. Its debut issue introduced two major Golden Age superheroes, the Flash, created by writer Gardner Fox and artist Harry Lampert, and Hawkman, also written by Fox with art by Dennis Neville, alongside a feature on the supernaturally powered Johnny Thunder. Despite its title, the series functioned as a true anthology of multiple heroes rather than a single character book, and it ran for 104 issues before ending in February 1949.
