Dances with Wolves

Dances with Wolves is a 1990 American epic Western and the directorial debut of Kevin Costner, who also stars, adapting Michael Blake's 1988 novel of the same name with Blake writing the screenplay. It tells the story of a Union Army lieutenant who travels to the American frontier and comes to live among a band of Lakota, with much of the film's dialogue spoken in the Lakota language with English subtitles. Made independently after major studios turned the project down, the film grossed over four hundred million dollars worldwide and won seven Academy Awards at the 63rd ceremony, including Best Picture and Best Director, and was later added to the United States National Film Registry.
