Dance Dance Revolution

Dance Dance Revolution is a 1998 arcade rhythm game developed by Konami as part of its Bemani series, in which players step on illuminated arrow panels on a dance platform in time with directional cues scrolling on screen, matched to each arrow's corresponding music track. Released first in Japan before spreading to arcades worldwide and to home consoles, it built on earlier rhythm games such as Konami's own Beatmania by requiring full-body movement rather than button presses, turning an arcade cabinet into an exercise activity as much as a game. Its commercial success launched a long-running series of sequels and established dance and rhythm games as a durable arcade and home-console genre through the 2000s.
