Toby Gard, born on 8 June 1972, is an English video game designer and consultant. He is the co-creator of Lara Croft, the protagonist of the video game franchise Tomb Raider, which has run from 1996 to the present. Lara Croft was awarded a Guinness World Record recognizing her as the most successful human video game heroine, a distinction that ties his name to one of the best-known characters in the medium. Tomb Raider, in which that character appears, has been running since 1996, so his co-creation covers nearly the whole modern history of the franchise.
