Commando Ninja

Commando Ninja is a 2018 French martial arts action comedy film directed by Benjamin Combes, crowdfunded on Kickstarter for more than double its 15,000 euro goal and shot over two years in Montpellier using practical effects and real locations. It follows John Hunter, a Green Beret who learns ninjutsu while imprisoned during the Vietnam War, and who decades later, in 1986, must rescue his kidnapped daughter from ninjas working for a Soviet arms dealer after his ex-wife is murdered, in a story that spans multiple time periods and eventually involves cyborgs, time travel, and a post-apocalyptic wasteland set in 1998. Released exclusively on YouTube on December 21, 2018 with a synthwave score by Thomas Cappeau, the film pays homage to 1980s action classics such as Commando, Predator, and The Terminator, and was followed by a sequel, Commando Ninja II: Invasion America, released on Blu-ray in October 2025.
