Cimarron (1931 film)

Cimarron is a 1931 American Western drama directed by Wesley Ruggles for RKO Radio Pictures, based on Edna Ferber's novel of the same name. The film follows Yancey and Sabra Cravat through the 1889 Oklahoma land rush and the following four decades of territorial development, as Yancey pursues frontier journalism and justice while Sabra eventually becomes one of Oklahoma's first women in Congress. It was RKO's most expensive production to that date and became the first Western to win the Academy Award for Best Picture, also taking the awards for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Art Direction.
