Castlevania, released in Japan as Akumajo Dracula, is a 1986 platform game developed and published by Konami for the Famicom Disk System, in which vampire hunter Simon Belmont enters Count Dracula's castle to destroy him. It was one of the first major platform games on Nintendo's home console and sold more than a million copies, helping establish the system's reputation for quality titles. Director Hitoshi Akamatsu built the game around a deliberately cinematic, atmospheric take on horror, and its power up system influenced later platformers such as Ninja Gaiden.
