Around the World in 80 Days is a 1956 American adventure comedy directed by Michael Anderson, produced by Michael Todd and distributed by United Artists, adapting Jules Verne's novel about the English gentleman Phileas Fogg, who wagers he can circle the globe in eighty days accompanied by his French valet Passepartout while a detective pursues him as a suspected bank robber. Shot on Todd-AO 70mm film across 112 locations in thirteen countries, it won five Academy Awards including Best Picture despite receiving no acting nominations, and was the last film to win Best Picture without also winning Best Director until In the Heat of the Night in 1967.
