A Prairie Home Companion is an American live radio variety show created and hosted by Garrison Keillor, first broadcast in 1974 from Saint Paul, Minnesota, combining live musical performances, comedy sketches, mock advertisements for fictional sponsors and Keillor's recurring monologue The News from Lake Wobegon, delivered as folksy reporting from an invented Minnesota town. The show was produced for and distributed through public radio, becoming one of the most widely carried weekly programs on the American public radio system. A Prairie Home Companion is widely regarded as one of the longest-running and most influential live variety programs in the history of American radio.
