Neighbours

Television Programming Landmarks

Neighbours is an Australian soap opera that premiered in 1985, set in the fictional Melbourne suburb of Erinsborough and following the daily lives of several neighboring households. It became one of the longest-running and most internationally exported Australian television programs, achieving particularly sustained popularity in the United Kingdom for decades after its debut, and its cast has included a number of actors and pop-music performers who went on to significant international careers. Its original free-to-air broadcast run eventually ended, and the series continued afterward through streaming distribution.
