Coronation Street

Coronation Street is a British television soap opera that debuted on ITV on 9 December 1960, created by Tony Warren and set among the working class residents of a fictional street in Weatherfield, a fictional town modeled on the industrial districts of Manchester and Salford. Broadcasting continuously since its debut, it was recognized by Guinness World Records in 2010 as the world's longest running television soap opera, and it has remained one of the most watched programs in British television history, drawing tens of millions of viewers at its historical peak and still averaging several million per episode more than six decades after it began. Its portrayal of working class Northern English life and speech was, at the time of its debut, unusual for British broadcasting, and it has been credited with shaping how British television since has represented ordinary domestic and community life.
