M*A*S*H

M A S H is an American television series developed by Larry Gelbart from Robert Altman's 1970 film and Richard Hooker's novel, premiering on CBS in 1972 and set at a Mobile Army Surgical Hospital during the Korean War, mixing broad comedy with sustained drama about the psychological toll of war on its medical staff. The series became known for gradually deepening its dramatic ambitions across its run, moving well beyond the film's satirical tone toward more serious meditations on mortality and futility. Its 1983 series finale, Goodbye, Farewell and Amen, was for decades the most watched single television broadcast in United States history.
