Cheers is an American television situation comedy created by Glen Charles, Les Charles and James Burrows that premiered on NBC in 1982, set almost entirely within a Boston bar and following its regular patrons and staff, including bartender Sam Malone and waitress-turned-graduate-student Diane Chambers. The series built its comedy around a stable ensemble cast and a small, recurring set of locations, a format that became widely imitated by later workplace and hangout sitcoms. Cheers ran for eleven seasons, was among the most watched programs in American television for much of its run, and produced the spin-off series Frasier.
