Squid Game is a South Korean dystopian survival thriller series created, written and directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk for Netflix. It premiered globally on September 17, 2021 and follows several hundred financially desperate contestants who compete in deadly versions of traditional Korean children's games for a massive cash prize, centered on protagonist Seong Gi-hun. The first season became Netflix's most-watched series ever and won six Primetime Emmy Awards along with a Golden Globe, and two further seasons continued the story through 2025 with a more mixed critical reception.
