The Office is an American sitcom developed by Greg Daniels, adapted from the British series of the same name, that aired on NBC beginning in 2005, following the fictional Scranton, Pennsylvania branch of a paper company managed by Michael Scott, played by Steve Carell, in the same single-camera mockumentary style as its British source. It ran nine seasons, considerably longer than the original, and became one of the most popular and, in later years, most frequently streamed American sitcoms of its era, helping sustain the mockumentary format's popularity in American network television well after the British series ended.
