The X-Files (franchise)

Television-Originated Franchises

The X-Files is an American science fiction thriller media franchise created by Chris Carter, built around the original television series that ran from September 1993 to May 2002. The show followed FBI special agents investigating unexplained cases, the fictional X-Files, ranging from paranormal phenomena to an elaborate extraterrestrial conspiracy, and became a defining cultural phenomenon of the 1990s. After the original run ended, the franchise was revived for a tenth season in 2016 and an eleventh in 2018, and has expanded well beyond television into feature films, novels, comic books, and video games.
